Pulling together all I have learned about medical care and human behavior over my career, I am writing Six Medicines, Six Gifts, Steps to a Plural Medicine, a book aimed at educated general readers, with potential as a textbook. It will have 14 chapters. The first seven provide a ‘toolbox’ that offers guidance on how to analyze medical systems. The next four discuss six different yet comparable medical systems (East Asian Medicine, shamanic healing, biomedicine, chiropractic, homeopathy, Christian Science). These are followed by a chapter that compares the six, and a chapter that discusses potential for creating an effective plural national medical system for the United States. The last chapter is addressed to patients and encourages self-advocacy.
